Our extra-curricular highlights
Debating and public speaking
Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.
Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. Lambton Public School participates in opportunities such as Hunter Dance Festival, Star Struck and Bandfest - this was our second year in a row coming 1st.
Trips and excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
High potential and gifted education
At Lambton Public School, we are proud to align our approach with the NSW Department of Education’s High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) policy, which recognises the diverse strengths and needs of gifted and high potential students. We are committed to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment that challenges and extends all learners, ensuring they are engaged, motivated, and able to reach their full potential. Our programs are designed to identify and nurture giftedness across multiple domains, reflecting the Department’s emphasis on catering to the whole child. By embracing a broad view of giftedness, we aim to foster excellence not only academically but also creatively, physically, and socially, preparing students for lifelong success and wellbeing.
Our approach focuses on four key domains:
- Creative Domain: We provide opportunities for students to develop innovative thinking and artistic expression, encouraging originality and problem-solving through diverse creative activities.
- Intellectual Domain: We challenge students with enriched learning experiences that promote higher-order thinking, deep inquiry, and advanced knowledge across the curriculum.
- Physical Domain: Recognising the importance of physical development, we support students in enhancing their coordination, health, and physical skills through targeted activities and sports.
- Social-Emotional Domain: We prioritise the emotional wellbeing and social development of gifted students, fostering resilience, self-awareness, and positive relationships to help them thrive within our school community.
At Lambton Public School, we are dedicated to implementing the NSW Department of Education’s HPGE policy by providing a comprehensive, student-centred approach that nurtures the potential of every learner across these four domains.

What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Art Spectacular
At the end of Term 1, all students were given the opportunity to apply for a small group project targeting students with high potential in visual arts. The selected students from K-2 included Vivian H (1S), Cora D (1AB), Isla S (1S), Jazmin S(KF), Pippa S (2B), and Ava W (1S). From 3-6, we had Aurora S (3/4L), Phoenix M (5/6CH), Freya D (5/6SG), Peyton M (5/6SG), Zoe H (3/4M), and Aurelia P (5/6M). This is one of two impressive artworks produced that take pride of place in our administration building, and we welcome you to come in and admire them for yourselves!
Virtual STEM Academy
We proudly support high-potential and gifted students by offering Stage Three students the opportunity to apply and be selected for the NSW Virtual STEM Academy. This state-wide enrichment program provides engaging online learning that extends students’ abilities in problem-solving, creativity and advanced STEM thinking. Selected students collaborate with like-minded peers and specialist teachers as they explore real-world challenges and inquiry projects. It is a valuable opportunity for learners who are ready to stretch themselves beyond the classroom.
